The SaddleBrooke Singers have taken on the challenge to bring holiday songs from all over the world to their Christmas Around the World concert scheduled for two dates in Dec. The concert will include songs from the Ukraine, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Catalonia, England, Japan, Mexico, and South Africa, as well as American favorites.

The singers have been diligently practicing their foreign language skills, and among the songs they will be singing are “Silent Night” in German, “Esta Noche (On that Night)” in Spanish, and “Japanese Snow Song” in Japanese. There will also be songs sung in Catalonian, French, Latin and Zulu.

Among those to be sung in English are “The Sussex Mummer’s Carol” and “The Hallelujah Chorus.” Other songs will be sung in a combination of English and the native languages of the countries from which the songs come.

One of the fun songs is “Mele Kalikimaka” (“Merry Christmas” in Hawaiian,) and another is “Ragtime Holiday,” a toe-tapping tune sung by a select small group.

The concerts will be held at the Desert View Performing Arts Theatre in SaddleBrooke on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m., Tickets are $16 per person and can be purchased at the Mountain View Ticket Office, online at Tickets.SaddlebrookeTwo.com or by phone at 825-2818.
