The return of spring marks a universal time of celebration that dates back to our first experiences of the season. “With sun on the meadows and songs in the shadows, comes again go me the gift of the tongues of the lea”. So wrote the author and poet Robert Louis Stevenson in his poem, “Spring Carol”. The return of Spring, with its bright colors and fresh flowers, provides an annually-awaited sense of renewal.
The SaddleBrooke Singers celebrate Spring and Nature by singing this song and many others in their upcoming concert, “Let Nature Sing”, on April 5 and 7 at the Desert View Theatre. The choir for this performance will consist of 66 singers in mixed voices, all residents of SaddleBrooke, residing in both HOA1 and HOA2.
Director Linda Griffin has chosen 18 songs, some that will be familiar and some that will be new to the audience, but all will be remembered for their beautiful melodies and harmonies. Some familiar ones include “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah”, “What a Wonderful World”, “A Wonderful Day Like Today”, and “All Things Bright and Beautiful”.
The poem by William Wordsworth, “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”, provides the uplifting words to that song. “I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o’er vales and hills, when all at once I saw a crowd, a host, of golden daffodils” begins another song of praise to the beauty of Nature. The sopranos and altos will perform “The Song That Nature Sings”, and the basses and tenors will sing a love poem by Edmund Waller, “Go Lovely Rose”.
The program ends with Robert Frost’s “Choose Something Like a Star”, that encourages us, when our world gets a little too high or too low, “We may choose something like a star to stay our minds on and be staid.”
The concert will be performed Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 7, at 4 p.m. at the Desert View Performing Arts Center. Tickets will be $18 in advance and $20 at the door, if available, and can be purchased at the Mountain View Ticket Office, online at http://tickets.saddlebrooketwo.com or by phone at 825-2818. There is no handling fee for phone or online orders, which will be available for pickup at the theatre on the day of the concert.
