PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – On May 14, 2013, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office arrested Robert Gilson, 28, of Tucson, in connection with a string of thefts in the SaddleBrooke area. The suspect was an employee of Maid2Clean and was contracted by homeowners for services. While providing these services Gilson would steal jewelry and take it to various Tucson pawn shops.
Detectives learned Gilson had made 46 jewelry sales to the Catalina Pawn Shop in Tucson between mid-February through April. A search of other nearby pawn shops also revealed additional sales made by Gilson. In total, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to tie Gilson to four different burglaries totaling nearly $47,000 in stolen jewelry.
The various pawn shop owners said Gilson came in with a story that a recent wealthy family member died and he had inherited the jewelry.
Pinal County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Gilson. After being advised of his Miranda rights, Gilson admitted to the theft of 76 pieces of jewelry. He said he had taken all the jewelry to the three pawn shops in Tucson. He said the items were stolen from eight different houses. Gilson claimed that he did the thefts out of financial desperation.
Gilson lived with his girlfriend who also worked for Maid2Clean. She stated that Gilson had bought miscellaneous items and marijuana with the recent cash. Gilson had told his friends the money was from a wealthy family member. Gilson was in possession of marijuana when he was arrested.
Gilson was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on seven counts of theft, seven counts of trafficking in stolen property, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pinal County Sheriff’s detectives were able to recover nearly $32,000 worth of the jewelry and returned it to the various owners.
