Last week the Superior Panthers played the Pima Roughriders in a conference game. The Panthers used their defense to keep the score manageable in the first half of the game but they were unable to gain a lead in the second half.

Pima’s tough defensive and quick-footed offense kept the Panthers from raising the score leaving the Panthers with a conference loss to the Pima Roughriders 60-18.

In the second half there was one play where the Panthers stopped play at the sound of the whistle by one of the referees on the field all while Pima continued play and ran in for another touchdown. After a long discussion, the points were allowed and the referee announced that it was an inadvertent whistle. Coach Ryan Palmer protested the call but that protest was met with deaf ears.

Overall, the team had some critical interceptions and recovered some fumbles but they were unable to stop the Roughriders from scoring.

Stats of the game were not available at press time. The Panthers will play Cibecue Wildcats for their last home game of the season this Friday at 7:00 p.m. Cibecue is 0-6 for the season the Panthers are favored in this match up.

The Panthers also celebrated Senior Night by recognizing the parents of the senior football players and cheerleaders.

The following students were recognized along with their parents during the ceremony: Alyssa Barragan daughter of Mike and Sandra Barragan, Nicole Godinez daughter of Arlynn and Ignacio Godinez, Richard Bueno son of Rick Bueno and grandson of Diane, Angel Cardenas, nephew of Joey and Hilda Cardenas, Louie Fuentes son of Louie and Linda Fuentes, Albert Mendoza son of Albert and Mary Mendoza, Mario Padilla son of Jimmy and Debbie Padilla, Adan Villalobos son of Mary and Lucino Pacheco, Armando Sandoval son of Jenna Tomberlin and grandson of Barbra Byas, Raul Scholnick son of Raul and Anna Scholnick and Jesse Aguilar son of Tommy and Cassie Aguilar.
