Rotary Club recognizes Students of the Month, welcomes new members

The Superior Rotary Club recently recognized the September Students of the Month from the Superior Junior Senior High School. The students were treated to lunch at Los Hermanos Restaurant and got to meet the members of the Superior Rotary Club. New members Tony Donlin, Sandra Irwin Doyle, and Kathy Long were welcomed into the club. In recent months the Superior Rotary has seen an upswing in membership.

Following introductions by all the members in attendance the Students of the Month gave their introductions.

Joshua Evans is a Junior at Superior High School. He is the son of Charlene Evans. He moved to Superior from Silver City, New Mexico. He has not decided on a major but plans on attending college after high school.

Mariza Padilla is a Senior at Superior High School. She is the daughter of Jimmy Padilla and Debbie Contreras. She has been an athlete throughout her school days, playing volleyball, basketball and softball. She was the Girls State delegate this year and is also a member of DECA, FCCLA, National Honor Society and Student Council. Following high school she plans on attending Central Arizona College; she is undecided on a major at this time.

Yuvithzia Romero is the daughter of Yube Valdez. She is an eighth grader at Superior Junior High. She moved to Superior from Mexico as a young child. She is a member of the Junior High Student Council and also plays volleyball and softball. She has not decided on a major but plans on attending college after high school.

Mathew Hernandez is the son of Valerie Macias. He is an eighth grader at Superior Junior High. He would like to be a engineer and is considering going to college at Arizona State University or Northern Arizona University. He is also researching education options in Texas or Hawaii. Mathew enjoys running and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society.

The Superior Rotary Club is the oldest service club in Superior. Founded in 1929 the club continues to serve Superior and further the Rotary International mission to erradicate polio. The Superior Rotary Club meets at Noon everyTuesday at the Los Hermanos Restaurant. Those interested in joining should call President Roy Chavez at 520-827-9133.
