Robert “Greñas” Garcia, 71, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013. He was born March 25, 1942, in Ray, AZ to Lorenzo M. and Isabel (Granillo) Garcia.
While in high school he played baseball in Sonora, AZ for a semi-pro league team named the Sonora Tigers.
In 1962 he was assigned to Fort Campbell, KY to the 101st “Screamin’ Eagles” Airborne Division while serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper.
He married Maria Ysabela N. Garcia in 1968.
He was employed by Kennecott/ASARCO in 1965, retiring in 2003.
He was a kind, loving man who enjoyed spending time with family, and had a passion for music. He enjoyed taking rides in the mountain terrain and spending time outside.
In retirement, he enjoyed learning more about history and current events. He would read the morning paper from front to back with a coffee in hand.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Ysabela; brother, Richard Garcia; children, Danny Garcia, Joey Garcia, Patsy (Garcia) Stults, Priscilla (Art) Padilla, Steve (Stacey) Garcia; 11 grandchildren, Paolo, Vanessa, Jenna, Danielle, Christopher, Jennifer, Matthew, Alex, Anthony, Brenden and Arianna; and eight great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Alyssa, Xzavian, Audrina, Olivia, Xander, Anthony Jr. and Eliana.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabel and his father, Lorenzo.
Funeral services were held at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Rosary was at 9 a.m. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. and interment immediately followed at Kearny Cemetery.
Griffith Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
