Richard F. ‘Richie’ Barreras

Richard F. “Richie” Barreras passed away peacefully in Mesa on Dec. 23, 2012.

Richie was well known for his love for music. He played in small bands in which he played the Congas and Drums for many years. He spent a lot of time with his dogs, and enjoyed spending time with nieces and nephews.

Richie is survived by his mother, Lucy Barreras of Superior; grandmother, Pola Lum of Michigan; sister, Tenchie Villaverde; and brothers, David “Nini” (Maria) Barreras of Miami and Andrew Barreras (Danny Orozco) of Tempe. He is also going to be missed greatly by his best-friend and companion, “man’s best friend” Jumper, and also many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ruben Barreras; his brothers, Raul “Lou-Louie” and Ruben “Titi” Barreras.

Richie’s life was celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Los Hermanos Hall, at noon. This included a memorial service, with luncheon to follow, and a graveside burial immediately after at Superior’s Fairview Cemetery.

There is also a benefit fundraiser planned for Saturday, Jan. 12, at Los Hermanos Hall with music and dance provided by: “Superior All-Stars” and “Solis-101 & Dulce” from 8 pm to midnight. To help or donate raffle items, please contact Frank Aranda at 480-202-4880 or Connie Reyna Perez at 602-703-8858.

All arrangements were handled by Dignity, Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery of Chandler.
