Ray softball loses to San Manuel

Softball – The Bearcats had their five-game winning streak snapped in an 8 – 3 loss to San Manuel on Apr. 11. Despite the loss, the ‘Cats have won six of their last seven after defeating Globe, 11 – 1, on Apr. 12. The Bearcats displayed uncharacteristically poor defense in the loss to San Manuel as they committed seven errors. Offensively, the ‘Cats were held to only four hits, but three of them were doubles by Savannah Willis, Nepeese Avechuco and Sarah Duncklee. Senior Annie Hinojos pitched a complete game in the victory versus Globe. She allowed only four hits while striking out four. Elissa Rodriguez, a sophomore, had two hits and three RBI in the game. Sarah Duncklee, Ashley Meza, Stormee Galka, and Savannah Willis each had two hits. Duncklee, a freshman, also had two RBI. The Bearcats are ranked eleventh overall in Division IV and fifth in Divison II. Upcoming schedule: Apr. 16 @ Superior, Apr. 19 vs. Superior, Apr. 22 vs. Miami, and Apr. 23 vs. Hayden.

Baseball – The Bearcats are ranked fourth overall in Divison IV and first in Section II. They extended their winning streak to seven games with victories last week against San Manuel and Globe. The ‘Cats beat San Manuel, 8 – 7 in dramatic fashion. After allowing six runs in the top of the seventh to give San Manuel a 7 – 6 lead, the Bearcats scored two run in the bottom half to get the win. The Harmon brothers, Seth and Daniel, each had two hits and three RBI in the game. Seth, a sophomore, had two doubles. Alton Hing and Jacob Wernett also had two hits each in the game. Next, the ‘Cats defeated Globe, 7 – 4, as Dominic Bravo and Jacob Wernett each had four hits, including two doubles each. Wernett, a senior, also had a triple among his four hits and had four RBI on the day. Alex Carrera and Daniel Harmon each hit a double in the game. Pitcher Seth Harmon earned the complete game victory. Upcoming schedule: Apr. 16 @ Superior, Apr. 18 vs. Canyon State Academy, Apr. 19 vs. Superior, Apr. 23 @ Hayden, Apr. 24 vs. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.
