The Adoption of Ray Unified School District 2016 Expenditure Budget as related to the State District Additional Assistance (DAA) Reduction of Funds, District Spending in the Classroom and General Guidelines for FY 16 Budget development was presented at a Special Board meeting on Monday, June 8, 2015, in the Ray District Office.  In addition, the 2015-16 Proposed Expenditure Budget was approved by the Board at the regular June 11 monthly meeting.

The public will have 30 days to provide feedback to the District before the scheduled Budget Adoption takes place at the July 9, Ray Governing Board meeting. The public can view the 2015-16 Proposed Budget on the Ray District website at: www.rayusd.org. Click on the tab “About Us” at the top of the homepage. The link will take you to the State website where the proposed budget can be viewed.

The public can provide comments in one of three ways:

• By calling the Proposed Budget Hotline at 520-363-5515 ext 502 and leaving a voicemail;

• By emailing comments to District Business Manager, Amanda Kelley at amanda_kelley@rayusd.org; or

• By completing a Public Comment Form located at the Ray District Office.

All comments must be received at the District by the end of the day July 8, 2015 to be considered.  All comments received, will be reviewed by the Ray Governing Board at the July 9 meeting.

Athletic Department “Pay to Play” Put on Hold

Despite many schools across the state implementing registration fees for athletic programs at schools, the Ray Governing Board decided to forego consideration of “Pay to Play” implementation next year upon the recommendation by Ray Athletic Director Jeff Cude.  The discussion took place at the Governing Board meeting June 11.

A recent online survey indicated that 70 percent of respondents favored “Pay to Play” but only a small number of people participated in the survey, stated Cude, and “that’s not enough respondents for making an informed decision,” he said.

In its place, the athletic department will conduct 2 or 3 department-wide fundraisers to offset the loss of revenue Pay to Play would have generated for the program.  A golf tournament is one fundraiser currently being considered in August at the Queen Valley Golf Course.  More information on exact date, location and times will be shared as details develop.
