Over a potential million dollars in scholarships and awards were presented to Ray High School graduating seniors last week during the 2013 Scholarship and Awards program held in the GKI Courtyard. Twenty-three of the thirty-nine graduates were rewarded for their endeavors at RHS.
Co-Valedictorian Altin Hing came away with the possible all time high award as he accepted the United States Air Force Academy Prep School Scholarship of $45,000. Upon successful completion of prep school, Altin will be awarded an additional $400,000 for four years to attend the Air Force Academy for a grand total of almost a half a million dollars.
Other awards earned by Hing included the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship worth $1,200; MJROTC Scholarship of $200; Student Council Scholarship of $200; Edward and Obdulia M. Feldhake Memorial Scholarship of $700; Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce Scholarship of $400; Washington Journalism and Media Conference Leadership, $2,000; Norwich Presidential Scholarship, $14,500 a year for four years; Future Leader Camp Achievement, $1500, a year for two years; ASU Dean’s Scholarship, $6,000 a year for four years; ASU Army ROTC Scholarship, four years full tition, books, and a stipend; Ong Ko Met Association Scholarship, $400 and SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarship, $1,500.
Co-Valedictorian Harmony Wormwood’s awards included U of A Wildcat Excellence Award, $2,000 a year for four years; Cesar Chavez Scholarship, $1,000; Worth and Dot Howard Scholarship, $1,000; John Slater Scholarship Fund, $1,000; Martin Woods Memorial Scholarship, $250; Student Council Scholarship, $100; Pinal County Junior Livestock Scholarship, $1,200; Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, $100; RHS Scholarship, $1,700; ASARCO Employee Funded Scholarship, $2,000; ASARCO Scholarship, $500; NHS Scholarship, $100; SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarship, $1,500 a year for four years.

Haleigh Osborn, salutatorian, collected the NAU Lumberjack Scholars Award, $8,453 a year for four years; John Slater Scholarship Fund, $1,000; Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, $100; ASARCO Scholarship, $500; NHS Scholarship, $100.
