The Ray Players practice for their upcoming debut performance. They were perform Poetic License to Kill on Saturday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at the Ray High School Auditorium.

Are you ready to be a part of a mystery and to be kept in suspense while having a few laughs along the way?

You can experience all of this on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Ray High School Auditorium.

The Ray High School drama class/club, taught by Jennifer Cude, is putting on a murder/ mystery/comedy play. The play is a pre-written and is called “Poetic License to Kill.” It was written by Edith Weiss.

Playbill for the Ray Players

Mrs. Cude said the students chose which play they wanted to do and wanted to do a murder/mystery/comedy.

Ray hasn’t had a big-scale production play in many years.

Mrs. Cude said she remembers a couple of plays between 1985 and 1989, but since the time she graduated in 1989, she doesn’t know of any plays being put on since then.

She said she doesn’t even remember having a drama class/club at Ray.

“To my knowledge, there has never been a (drama) class that I know of. In my memory, it’s been an elective,” she said.

The drama students even have a name. They are called the Ray Players.

Cude said there are currently 20 students in involved with the play and the club and 18 students in the actual drama class. They are all sophomores.

Cude added that this class was a last-minute development. She said the sophomore class was basically split into two groups once the class was ready. Half the students went into art, while the other class went into drama.

Mrs. Cude said she has enjoyed seeing the students learn to act and get involved with a class like drama.

“I love to see them learn things about themselves,” she said.

She also said many of the students have been “really, really enthusiastic” about the play.

Mrs. Cude said if the play goes well, she would like to do a spring production and bring the drama class/club back for another year.

The tickets can be purchased from the drama club students, Jennifer Cude, the Ray High School Office and they can be purchased the night of the play at the door of the auditorium.
