Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens seeks input for area plan on aging

Pinal Gila Council for Senior Citizens (PGCSC) is in the process of developing a 4-year Area Plan on Aging for fiscal years 2014-2017, as required under the Federal Older Americans Act.

The Area Plan is the planning document which identifies priority needs programs, goals, objectives, funding and advocacy efforts that will be undertaken by PGCSC and our provider network in developing, implementing and building collaborations and programs for seniors in the Region for the next 4 years. PGCSC will host two public hearings to seek public input for the plan.

Locations for the hearing:

●Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at PGCSC’s Main Office, 8969 West McCartney Road, Casa Grande, Arizona at 9 a.m.

●Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at the Town of Hayden’s Council Chambers, 520 Velasco Avenue, Hayden, Arizona at 10:30 a.m.

PGCSC’s Administration, Board of Directors and Advisory Council realizes that the economic decline and system changes occurring daily on national, state and local fronts will have a serious impact on the current service delivery system and funding for senior programs.

The Council is therefore requesting that seniors, service providers, families, caregivers, and all interested in senior issues attend and provide input to make the plan a comprehensive one that addresses real needs.

The Council is also interested in listening to any new or innovative ideas, volunteer opportunities, in-kind services, and creation of partnerships both from private/public sectors in meeting the needs of seniors.

PGCSC conducted an assessment of needs survey to assist in plan development and the initial data indicates that major needs of seniors identified in the region are:

●Home delivered and senior center meal programs

●Transportation for medical and basic needs

●In-home respite (short term care and supervision for a loved one)

●Assistive devices for walking, hearing, eating, speaking, etc.

●Financial help with dentures, glasses and hearing aids

●Home care (housekeeping, home health/nursing, personal care, attendant care)

●Adult day care/group respite care

●Access to medical care (doctors and specialists)

●Affordable dental care

●Exercise, health and fitness programs

If you would like to provide public input for the Area Plan goals and objectives and will not be able to attend the public hearings please go to PGCSC.org and submit your comments from Feb. 6 to Feb. 15, 2013 or write to PGCSC, 8969 West McCartney Road 85194.

If you have any questions please call Olivia Guerrero or Ana Medina at 520-836-2758 or 800-293-9393. PGCSC is a United Way of Pinal County member agency and funded in part by the Older Americans Act of 1965 as amended.
