The Oracle Piano Society sponsored a “Piano Story Time” at the Oracle Union Church, Trowbridge Hall in Oracle on Saturday, Jan. 24. It was the first of what will become a monthly event for kids ages 5-10 and their parents/grandparents can play too. The multi-media activity included drawing, story telling, play acting, and music had the kids enthralled. The theme was “The Strawberry Skunk” which included the reading of the book “The Strawberry Skunk” written by Dwayne Jennings and illustrated by Dawn Jennings. Elaine Helzer read the book, while assisted by Rachel Opinsky, Earlene Lewis and Tina Silverman who engaged the kids in the story.

At the beginning of the activity, the kids were asked to draw or color their idea of a Strawberry Skunk. Amy Lewis won the picture contest. Her prize was a copy of the Strawberry Skunk book. Earlene and Elaine also played music including the Strawberry Skunk Song. All the kids received a small gift at the end of the program. The “artistic fusion” is a way of getting kids interested in the arts and introducing youth to good music.

The Oracle Piano Society is a 501 © (3) non-profit organization. Their volunteers are helping keep music and the arts going in our local schools and communities. They are always looking for donations of used musical instruments of all kinds as well as monetary contributions to help them reach their goals which includes making the “town of Oracle known as a cultural sanctuary cultivating exceptional music for all”.
