Pastor’s Corner: Jesus Set Us Free from Sin

In Mark 8:27, Jesus asked His disciples a serious question.  “Who do people say that I am?”  He already knew the answer to that question, but did this group actually know what the people were thinking?

Obviously, many had no understanding of His ministry among them.  They thought He was a re-incarnation of one of the earlier prophets.  They did not understand His purpose here on the earth.

He then asked what their opinion was.  Peter, the impulsive one, jumped up and declared – ‘You are the Christ, the Messiah.’  Yet, on down the chapter, in verse 33, Peter is called satan by Jesus, because he wasn’t connecting with God’s purpose among men.

Each of us at times makes the mistake of thinking that we know it all, as Peter did.  Unwisely, he spoke his mind.  Jesus came to rescue us, setting us free from a life of sin.  He is the Christ, our Savior, our Messiah.  Be thankful that He accomplished what He came to earth to do!
