Panthers struggling defensively

The Panthers boys’ basketball team lost both games it played last week against Ft. Thomas and Joseph City. The Panthers’ defense is not stingy enough to help the team earn a few more victories.

There is little, if any, doubt that the inexperience of the Panthers’ young team is a contributing factor in its inability to perform better defensively. But make no mistake, the youngsters are talented enough to make the commitment to learn and adjust.

The Panthers have allowed an average of 66 points over their past five games. The Panthers have not scored that many points in any one game this season. It’ll a take a better effort defensively to get a win before the season’s end.

Freshman Nicolaus Cruz was the team’s leading scorer with 6 points in a lopsided loss at Duncan on January 17, 2014. Cruz was 2 for 3 from three-point range. Freshmen Austin Navarrette and Edgar Galindo each had 4 rebounds to lead the team.

After a home game versus Hayden on January 28, the Panthers will play two of their remaining three regular season games on the road. The first of the final three games is at Cibecue on January 31. All games tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
