After losing four-straight games, the 10th-ranked Panthers’ baseball team was in desperate need of win heading into last Friday’s game against the eighth-ranked San Manuel Miners.
Two hits each by Nicolaus Cruz and Elias Olmos helped the Panthers’ upset the Miners, 7 – 5. The win moved the Panthers’ back into the top 10 of the AIA rankings.
Cruz, a sophomore, relieved starting pitcher Edgar Galindo and picked up the save, preserving Superior’s ninth win of year and fourth at home.
Galindo, another sophomore, made his fifth start of the season and pitched four innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. He struck out two and walked seven Miners’ hitters.
Austin Navarrette had two RBI in the win.
