The Superior Panthers dropped their third straight game last Friday night as they were defeated by the Joseph City Wildcats, 58 – 22. In each of the Panthers’ three losses they have shown the ability to move the ball offensively and score points. The defensive side of the ball is an area in need of quick improvement.
Junior Marcus Hircheta replaced the injured Edgar Galindo at running back and had a career game with 114 all-purpose yards and 2 TD. Nicolaus Cruz and Elias Olmos shared time at the quarterback position and each performed well. Cruz was a triple threat in the game with 11 yards rushing, 43 yards passing, and 48 yards receiving. Olmos had 36 yards rushing and 85 yards passing. The Panthers’ leading receivers in the game were Matthew Zavala, Austin Navarrete and Quinten Walters.
Juniors Matthew Zavala (9 tackles) and Oscar Rangel (5 tackles) led the way for the Panthers’ defense.
The Panthers will travel to Pima, AZ to face the undefeated Pima Roughriders on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at 7 p.m.
