The Panthers’ girls’ basketball team will return four starters from last year’s team after losing only two seniors. According to head coach Manuel Ortega, seniors Kiara Romero and Mariza Padilla, junior Cierra Navarrette and sophomore Gabby Salcido are the returning starters.

Ortega said he expects all the players on the team to contribute and believes the depth on the team will provide an opportunity for success. He detailed some other keys for achieving success this season in an email to the Superior Sun.

“(We need) to build chemistry with each play as a team to make every (player) better. We have to work hard and become a very tight knit group. We have to look for each other and develop a good bond.”

The players on the team will be held accountable on and off the court, according to Coach Ortega. He expects his players “to be respectful, hard-working, responsible, and present themselves with class and dignity.”

Ortega said the roster in not finalized at this time but hopes to announce the team later this week.

The Panthers open their season on November 26, 2013 versus Globe at Superior High School. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
