Optimist Club installs new officers and members

Members and officers of the Superior Optimist Club.

The Superior Optimist Club is beginning its 11th year of service to the community of Superior. The club is known for hosting the annual Miracle on Main St. holiday parade and festivities along with the Honor Roll Banquet that awards graduating seniors with lap top computers and other awards for earning the honor roll.

The club hosted their annual installation dinner for their 2016-17 officers. Serving the club in a leadership capacity this year is Mila Besich-Lira, President; Jessica Castillo, Vice President; Secretary/Treasurer JoAnn Besich and Willa Ficcara. Board members are Barbara Armitage, Hilda Cardenas and Karen Afdahl.

The local service club has recently accepted the membership and inducted those members at the installation dinner. New members are Marcella Garcia, Barbara Armitage, Pamela Peck, Jenny Holmquist, Connie Perez, Maria Hjelle and Gina Lopez.

Mila Besich is a resident of Superior with two children. She volunteers for many local organizations. She is an experienced fundraiser and event planner for Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition. She covers some of the area town councils and schools.
