When Buzzy’s was destroyed by fire late last month, the owners were understandably devastated. But they were not the only ones and soon devastation turned to hope and determination as hundreds of friends and patrons spanning decades came forward and offered help. And that’s how Operation Rebuild Buzzy’s was born.

A site on Facebook was quickly set up where people could post memories of good times and good food and lots of ideas were shared as to how to get the ball rolling. Donation ideas were also presented, just in case the insurance didn’t cover everything, because the community wanted their drive-in back.

The ball got rolling last week when dozens of people showed up to help with the first phase of rebuilding. The burned-out building needed to be demolished and that was accomplished in two days.

Next up is an inspection of the foundation. Once it has been determined if the slab can be used or a new one needs to be poured things can move forward.

To learn more and keep updated visit the site, not only does it take one down memory lane, but it provides a real sense of people wanting to help other people. Growing up and/or living in a small town certainly has its perks and you won’t find that in a big city.
