Norma Mae (Brown) Martin

, 71, of Oracle, AZ, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Hospice Family Care Center in Tucson, AZ. She was born June 23, 1942 in Miami, AZ, the daughter of Travis and Helen Brown. Norma resided many of her early married years in Hayden, AZ.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Judy (Gilbert); son, David (Melinda); brother, Walter (Glenda); grandchildren, Danny Hernandez, JR Hernandez and Crystal Martin; great-grandchildren, Ramon Anaya, Gabriel Anaya, Maya Hernandez, Mariah Hernandez, Alonzo Hernandez and Blazin Rose Lyons; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David “Lefty” Martin; and two sisters, Barbara Childers and Charlene Cross.

Between the years of 1951 to 1956 Norma lived in Winslow, AZ, Anchorage, AK, Artisa, CA, Bellgarden, CA, Gardena, CA and then back to Arizona. In 1958 Norma married David “Lefty” Martin and moved to Claypool, AZ. When her children, Judy and David were born, they moved to San Pedro, AZ then Winkelman, AZ. They purchased their first house in Hayden, AZ and resided there for many years. From 1970 – 1981 Norma was on the Hayden Public Library Board of Trustees. She served on the Finance Committee and served five terms as President. Norma was also an Adult Bible teacher, Assistant Treasurer, Member of the Constitution Revision Committee for San Pedro Valley Baptist Church in Dudleyville, AZ. From 1974 – 1977 Norma was the Deputy Assessor, Motor Vehicle Division, Gila County Assessor’s Office, Hayden Branch, Hayden, AZ. In 1975 Norma was a Special Temporary Clerk at the Hayden Federal Credit Union. In 1978 – 1979 Norma was a Cafeteria Worker for the Hayden-Winkelman School District. In 1984 – early 1990’s Norma worked with the Town of Hayden. She began as a General Office Clerk was promoted to Deputy Town Clerk/Election Officer in 1985. Norma medically retired from the Town of Hayden in the early 1990s.

Norma and David “Lefty” purchased property in Oracle, AZ in the early 1990s to which they moved. They remained there until David “Lefty” passed away in 1998. Norma remained in Oracle until April 2014 at which time she fell ill and succumbed to her debilitating medical condition on June 16, 2014.

Her hobbies were volunteer work, reading, camping and oil painting.

She will be greatly missed. Her spirit will live in each one of us for eternity. Mom, thank you for all that you have taught us.

Services for Mrs. Martin will be held Friday, June 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Griffith Mortuary, Kearny, AZ. Luncheon to follow at Hayden Golf Course Club House.
