Eleanna Ybarra will attend Girls State this year.

  Superior High School has announced that Austin Navarette and Eleanna Ybarra have been selected to attend the American Legion Boys and Girls State program this summer.

  American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are programs designed to teach high school juniors how government works while developing leadership skills and an appreciation for their rights as citizens.

  Navarette is the son of Martin and Vanessa Navarette.  He is a Junior at Superior High School, where he is an honor roll student and athlete. Navarette plays football, basketball and baseball. 

  He has started his college career by taking classes from Central Arizona College during high school.  He is a member of Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).  After high school he plans to attend Northern Arizona University where he plans to study Environmental Engineering. He hopes to have a career with Game and Fish or the Forest Service. 

  He will attend the Arizona Boy’s state program in Flagstaff at the Northern Arizona University campus.  Navarette is looking forward to learning more about the government process. He said he may consider political leadership if he likes it. “President Navarette, has a good ring to it,” he said.

  Ybarra is the daughter of Ruben and Lupita Ybarra.  She is the President of the Junior Class and a member of Student Council, FCCLA and DECA.  She has competed nationally for FCCLA and is a member of the Tennis Team. 

  In addition to her high school classes she attends the Cobre Valley Institute of Technology where she is studying to become a medical assistant.  After high school she plans to attend either Arizona State University or Arizona Christian University where she plans to get a teaching degree.  She would like to return to Superior and teach English. 

  She will be attending Girls State in Tucson this summer at the University of Arizona Campus.  She is looking forward to learning more about Government, meeting new friends and gaining additional leadership skills.

Mila Besich is a resident of Superior with two children. She volunteers for many local organizations. She is an experienced fundraiser and event planner for Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition. She covers some of the area town councils and schools.
