Mt. Vista School inducts eight new members into National Junior Honor Society

Eight seventh and eighth grade students from Mt. Vista School in Oracle were recently inducted into membership of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

The candle light ceremony was held at the school on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony was attended by the new inductees, current NJHS members, parents and administrators. The students conducted the ceremony.

Jessica Vickery, NJHS President, welcomed those in attendance. Julia Tellez read the poem The World Is Mine by Tennyson Guyer.

Gustavo Martinez spoke to the new members about scholarship, Desiree Gallarado spoke about service, Sarah Lee-Silva spoke about leadership, Keefer Gagnon spoke about citizenship and Angel Jennings spoke about character.

Emily Soulé led the new inductees in the NJHS pledge and the Mt. Vista Principal, Mr.Dennis Blauser, conferred the certificates and welcomed the new members.

The students inducted were Hunter Cole, Tanner Davis, Alyssa Ollson, Alexandria Cota, Hannah Nehrmeyer, Trevor lata, Raquel Ortiz and Miguel Florez. The new members were selected by a Faculty Council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship and character.

Current members are Cody Bradley, Emily Soulé, Monique Navarro, Jessica Vickery, Latissia Garcia, Sarah Lee-Silva, Breanna McGinnis, Desiree Gallardo, Samantha Keilman, John Machado, Gustavo Martinez, Alexys Dietz, Angel Jennings, Jenna Martinez, Sam Muniz, Matthew Peru, Julia Tellez, Kayla Brown, Keefer Gagnon, Grethel Johnson, Kiera Myers and Demi Nicholson.

After the ceremony, refreshments were served by the current NJHS members to the new members, their families and friends.

NJHS members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community.

The Mountain Vista Middle School Chapter has been active since 2005. Mrs. Nannette Soulé is the NJHS sponsor.

NJHS ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for middle school students. Chapters exist in more than 60 percent of the nation’s middle schools and, since 1929; millions of students have been selected for membership.

NJHS is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, which also sponsor the National Honor Society.
