The San Manuel Miners wrestling team continues to compete and improve as the season progress. They are also winning along the way. After a 3 – 1 start within their section, the Miners competed at Tombstone on December 11, 2013. They came away with a record of 4 – 0 in defeating Tombstone, Bisbee, Santa Cruz, and Baboquivari.

Head coach Daniel Najera was once again pleased with the performances of his wrestlers before they travel to Show Low for the Witt Duals Invitational.

“The boys are wrestling hard and with a lot of intensity,” Najera said after the Tombstone meet. “I feel we’re ahead of where we’re usually at (by this) point of the season. The tournament in Show Low will tell us where we’re at individually and as a team.”

Najera said the team is looking forward to competing at Show Low and said it’s important for the team to “stay motivated, prepared, and focused on our goals.”

Najera announced that senior Miguel Gonzalez was recognized as the Co-Wrestler of the Week. Gonzalez has been on the Miners’ wrestling team for two seasons.

“Miguel is a very respectful young man who has a bright future ahead of him,” Najera said.

Gonzalez was 4 – 0 at the Tombstone meet. According to Najera, Gonzalez has made huge improvements and is a pleasure to coach.
