Head Coach Daniel Najera said, “We went 3-1. We started the season off on a good note. We came home with 17 pins and won the take down battle. The boys are wrestling aggressively and are being coachable. Majority of our lineup bumped up one weight class and accepted the challenge without complaint. Everyone is buying into our system and we will continue to improve. The strongest trait about our wrestlers is their leadership. Someone is always trying to pick up the intensity at practice which makes everyone wrestle to their potential. The coaching staff is very pleased with their effort and work ethic.

The coaching staff chose wrestler of the week: Frankie Tamayo 106 & 113lbs, a junior, wrestled very impressively by pinning all four of his opponents which included a five second pin. Frankie has overcome a lot of diversity this past month but has stayed focused and motivated. Being injured and bumping up a weight class really showed how mentally tough Frankie is.”

The Miners will take to the mat today in Thatcher against Pima, Morenci, and host Thatcher with wrestling starting at 4 p.m.
