San Manuel Miner
San Manuel High School hosted the “April Qualifier” last Wednesday with the Miners boys’ and girls’ track teams finishing third and second, respectively. Combs took first place on both sides of the event.
The San Manuel girls’ team finished second out of eight teams. Andrea Castaneda took first place in the 3200m event with a time of 14:02.83. Theresa Sweeney took first place in two events, the Shot Put (34’ 1.50”) and the Discus (82’ 6.00”). Other top finishers for the Miners’ girls’ team included the 4x100m, 4x400m, and 4x800m relay teams, which each took second place. Leticia Vargas (200m – 3rd, 100m Hurdles – 6th), Yesenia Arcienega (400m – 6th), Eneida Quintero (1600m – 2nd), Andrea Castaneda (300m Hurdles – 4th), Jessica Lopez (300m Hurdles – 6th), Jade Willard (Long Jump – 6th, Triple Jump – 2nd), and Stephanie Morris (Shot Put – 3rd).
The Miners’ boys’ team took third place in the 10-team qualifier event, finishing behind Combs and Ray. Teammates Patrick Lopez and Marco Salas tied for first place in the pole vault with both clearing 8’ 6.00”. Other top finishers included Colton Stratton (800m – 2nd, 3200m – 4th), James Duarte (3200m – 5th), Patrick Lopez (3200m – 2nd), Marcos Salas (3200m – 5th), Andres Rodriguez (100m Hurdles – 3rd), Jared Gonzales (100m Hurdles – 5th, 300m Hurdles – 3rd), 4x800m Relay Team (3rd), and Michael Sanchez (Discus – 4th).
