Wayne Newman, a San Manuel graduate and 2013 valedictorian, won the Men’s 60m Hurdles Event at the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Newman, a freshman at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, won the championship with a time of 8.07.

Newman won his heat in the preliminaries and qualified third for the Finals. He bested his preliminary time by 1/10th of a second in the finals and beat the two hurdlers who qualified ahead of him in the eight-person finale.

“Wayne’s 60 meter hurdles race was so exciting,” Lipscomb Track and Field Director Bill Taylor told Lipscombsports.com. “To watch him pull ahead and win that event was amazing.”
