Last week, Copper Area News reported that State Representative TJ Shope had dropped a memorial to encourage the US Congress to pass a land exchange bill for the Resolution Copper project.
At press time, LD-8 Senator Barbara McGuire had not been contacted to support the bill introduced by Shope. Since she was not a sponsor, her name was not included as a supporter of the bill via the legislature’s website.
“I am 100 percent in support of Resolution Copper,” McGuire said in a telephone interview, “had I been asked to sign onto the bill I would have.” McGuire further explained that the memorial dropped by Shope “is like sending Congress a post card.”
McGuire explained that she is also planning to work with the Arizona Congressional delegation to assist with supporting the land exchange.
At press time, a new land exchange bill has not been introduced into Congress. Resolution officials are expected to make decisions on when a new land exchange bill will be introduced in the coming weeks.
