Mayor’s Minute: Graduates & Projects

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

This year is flying by so quickly. Our school district will be celebrating graduation on May 26 and in honor of our class of 2017 the Superior Town Council will be recognizing our graduates with a special presentation at the Town Council meeting on Thursday, May 11, 2017.  Our youth are one of the most important assets in our community. We often get so anxious for them to grow up but we really hate to lose their energy in our community. We wish them much success in their future and hope that they return home.

We have had a very busy first quarter of 2017 at Town Hall.  Our remodel is almost complete and we have moved our Town Administration offices to the the south side of the building.  If you have not been in to see the new offices, drop in and take a look.

Staff has also put out a Request for Proposals for the engineering and paving of Sunset Drive as part of our transportation improvement plan.  We expect to have this project started sometime in the early Summer once school is let out.  We have received reports that construction on US 60 will be complete in early June if not earlier.

In April the Town Council also approved a new policy to allow for our Senior Center Kitchen to be rented out for commercial food preparation.  The need for a community commercial kitchen has been an ongoing need in the community not only for local events and our non-profits but also for emerging food businesses.  This opens doors for those who may be interested in making food to sell or even operating a pop-up restaurant in the Senior Center.

We will be finalizing our decisions on how to allocate our Community Development Block Grant Funds at our May meeting.  Some of the ideas on the table for consideration are additional repairs to the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Community Parks Planning and Construction, Drainage project for the Palo Verde neighborhood and additional pavement projects.

Sunday is Mother’s Day and what would we do without our Moms!  I know without a doubt my Mom and my grandmothers have played a important role in guiding me and supporting me.  Take a few moments to thank all of the Moms in your life this week!
