Mayor, Town of Kearny
I remind all Kearny residents of the financial survey being conducted in order for the Town of Kearny to receive a $224,000 Community Development Block Grant. The survey will determine if Kearny fits the “Low/Moderate” income category which allows us to fund systemic items such as fire hydrants and the ten-year plan required by the State of Arizona.
The surveys, which are totally confidential, may be acquired at the library and at Town Hall. You may fill them out on site or may take them home to complete and return (or mail in with the supplied stamped envelope). Wide participation is needed to make Kearny a better place. Please do your part by filling out the survey completely and getting it in.
As you read this, I am in Japan with my wife, Carol, visiting our son, his wife, and our grandson. Japan has millions of people and very little land, so the homes are small and located closely to each other. I give thanks for Kearny and the “room to breathe” which we enjoy. Our houses and yards are larger than Japanese ones by a factor of three or more.
I give thanks as well for the way people have pitched in recently to clean their yard, take out the weeds and, in some cases, even begun large landscaping efforts. Our Journey for a Clean Kearny seems to be making a difference. Recently a realtor cleaned up the yards of two homes for sale, which is sure to give them better curb appeal for a likely buyer.
Oh, there’s more to do, of course. As soon as several homes and yards get cleaned up, the neglected homes and yards stand out all the more.
Isn’t it great to shop at Norm’s Hometown Grocery? Norm and Myra Warren have taken on a tall task of owning the store and stocking it for our convenience. They are working through all the complexities of transition and soon all will be in order for a grand opening. Look forward, too, to the reopening of Cosmic Coffee on the other side of Alden Road!
