Mary Yoshikawa Estrada, our amazing and beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away on June 9, 2013 at La Cañada Care Center in Tucson. She was born on May 6, 1916 in Hayden to Ginsuke “Frank” Yoshikawa and Esther Gonzalez Yoshikawa. She graduated from Benson High School. After high school, she attended Arizona State College, St. Mary’s College of Nursing in Tucson, and graduated from Arizona Central College at age 62.
She owned and operated a grocery store in Hayden/San Pedro for many years and worked as a teacher’s aide for many years in the Hayden/Winkelman School District. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe P. Estrada and is survived by her children: Raul (Gloria), Randy (Rose), Roy (Virginia), Bettina (Phillip) Grajeda; her sister, Ceila; 13 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren who loved her and will miss her.
On Mon., June 17, Rosary was held at 7 pm at Funeria Del Angel South Lawn from 5 pm – 9 pm. On Tues., June 18 Catholic Mass was held at St. John, the Evangelist Catholic Church, 602 Ajo Way in Tucson at 10 am, with interment following.
