Mary P. Duarte, 88, of Kearny, passed away on April 8, 2012 at Northwest Medical Center, Tucson.
Mary was born the daughter of Domingo and Maria (Rodriguez) Pacheco on November 29, 1923 in Sonora, Arizona. She grew up Sonora and graduated from Ray High School. On October 2, 1949 she married Joe Duarte in Sonora. The couple made their home in Sonora and later moved to Kearny. Mary was very active in the church, teaching catechism and singing in the choir. In 2009 they were the Patron and Patrona at the Fiesta Santa De Nino.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Hermina Berlonga, Sister Mary Dominic, Nellie Avelar, Yonie (Fernando) Real and Irene (Bob) Evans; children, Marie Romero, Elvia Lopez, Fernando Real Jr. and Anthony Real; grandchildren, David Lopez, Billy (Beth) Real, Maria Celina (Julian) Acevedo, Ana Alicia Lopez, Sarah Romero, Rebekah Romero, Angela Lopez and Antonio Cruz; and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe “Chema” Duarte; siblings, Augustine Pacheco, Enrique Pacheco, Jesus Pacheco, Richard Pacheco and Virginia Pacheco.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny on April 13 with a Rosary preceding it. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
