The Mammoth Elementary School attends the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation Fair (SARSEF) every year. They won big this year.
This year, the fair had 95,000 students from Southern Arizona. The kids took home five prizes out of only 683 picked winners.
Mr. Chavez said SARSEF gives the students a list of project ideas that they can choose to do.
In order from kindergarten to 6th grade: Mrs. Vender’s class won 2nd under the category Animal and Plant Sciences for their project, Are You a Bad Egg; Mrs. Garcia’s class won 2nd under the category Energy and Environmental Engineering for their project, Any Juice Left; Mrs. Cazares’s class won 1st under the category Earth and Environmental Sciences for their project, Salt of the Earth; and Mr. Chavez’s class won 1st and 3rd for their 8 projects under the categories Animal and Plant Sciences and Energy and Environmental Engineering for their projects, Recycle, Reuse, Reclaim, and Tree of Life.
Chavez said the upper classes got to do more than one project per class, and two students chose to do their project separate. Julie Garcia and Andres Zazueta got to do their project and win their own trophy.
Congratulations to Mammoth Elementary School and the kids for their success.
