Mammoth-San Manuel seats full school board, welcomes two new members

It’s been a while, but last week a fully seated governing board for the Mammoth-San Manuel School District got down to business.

The two new members of the board, appointed by Pinal County School Superintendent Jill Broussard, were introduced at the Tuesday, Aug. 11, meeting. The new Board members are Michael Carnes and David Aronson, both of San Manuel. Carnes is the General Manager of Copper Area News Publishers. Aronson works in Green Valley for Freeport-McMoran.

Superintendent John Ryan gave an update on the flood damages at the school. An early estimate of the damage is $750,000. Construction and repair of the classrooms will be the priority. The crews are three days ahead of schedule. Completion date will be in six to eight weeks.

The Board accepted a number of donations for the school. The donations included:

  • $50 for First Avenue Elementary from Amanda Guerrero.$125 for First Avenue Elementary from Barbara Hagan and Joyce Hughey.
  • $50 for First Avenue Elementary from Arlene Kyle.
  • $200 of school supplies for First Avenue Elementaryfrom APEX Repair in Oracle.
  • $89 of school supplies for First Avenue Elementary from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
  • $275 in value – three classical guitars for First Avenue Elementary from Earlene Lewis.
  • $89 in school supplies for Mammoth Elementary STEM School from Pinal County Sheriff.
  • $500 for Mammoth Elementary STEM School from Science Foundation Arizona
  • $200 for the San Manuel Junior-Senior High School yearbook class from the San Manuel Miner.
  • $100 Beta Mu Sorority
