Lynn Heglie, 72, passed away May 12, 2018 at his home in Superior.

Every town needs to have people like Lynn Heglie.  Although his demeanor was quiet and unassuming the changes he made to Superior were flamboyant and extensive.  It is easy to spot the buildings that Lynn renovated.  Since moving here in 1994, he had transformed three commercial building and eight houses.

Lynn wasn’t always a renovator and pub owner.  He used to earn his living as a barber.  That is what he did for 12 years in Mesa before growing tired of living in the big city.  Looking for a small town within commuting distance, he came upon Superior.  This quaint town with spectacular views of the Superstition Mountains fit the bill.  What Lynn didn’t know when he moved here was how much Superior would change his life or what kind of positive impact he would have on the town.

The first barber shop lead to a second and then to Cafe Piedra Roja. He was there for nine years.  During that time he was fixing up more houses, involved in the Superior Chamber of Commerce, became its President, began supporting the local artists, was a member of the town council for several years, ran his cafe, and still gave haircuts.

Lynn had a great appreciation for art.  As Chamber of Commerce President he was responsible for instigating the Dia de Colores annual event in Superior that featured the works of our local artists.  He helped create the Art League and the Prickly Pear Festival.  Whatever project he took on, it helped benefit Superior.

On Sunday, May 20, a large group of Lynn’s friends gathered on the patio at Porter’s Cafe to celebrate his life and say farewell. He will be missed.
