Lupe Palacios, 59, passed away on Nov. 14, with family and friends by her side.
She is preceded in death by her father, Manuel Benavides; mother, Mary Trenerio; and, her brother, Manuel (Carol) Benavides Jr. She is survived by her husband Apolinar “Polo” Palacios; daughter, Mona (Sam Horton Jr) Benavides; son, Manny Palacios and her two gerdas, Azalup Jimere and Berach Horton; siblings, Guillamo (Alice) Magdaleno, Hector Magdaleno, Barbra (Richard) Amaro, Antonio Benavides, Raymond (Luz) Benairdes, Ruby (Humberto) Marquez and Mandy Alvarado.
Lupe was born in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Jefferson High School. She moved to Arizona in 1978, when she married Polo. She was a waitress at El Sonorense, owned by her “patroncito” Martin Corona. The experience many customers had there depended on what kind of mood she was in. She was also known for her volunteer services for the Salvation Army, first under the care of Senator Barbara McGuire and, more recently, one of her “Besties” Lora Snow. She also volunteered every month for the food bank at the courthouse. She loved to cook and bake for the whole town, especially during the holidays.
She was a very caring, nonjudgmental, humble woman. Her presence, including her grumpy expressions, will be truly missed by many.
Service were held on Tues., Nov. 19 at Infant Jesus of Prague in Kearny, with Mass by Father James Aboyi.
