LOST Inc. hikes into Arnett Canyon

Arnett Canyon near Superior is gorgeous especially in the spring.

The Legends of Superior Trails Inc. hosted a guided hike through Arnett Canyon on Saturday.  These hikers began their trek at the Arizona Trail Picket Post trail head and ended their 6 mile journey near Golf Course Road on the south side of Superior.  Inside the canyon is a native Arizona riparian wilderness.

The hike was organized to introduce locals and other hikers to the canyon, where the Legends of Superior Trails – gateway trail will be relocated.  The original gateway trail that connected the Arizona Trail – Picket Post trail head to the Town of Superior was forced to be re-located after the construction for the expansion of the US 60 began.

ADOT has paid to have the trail re-located and the funds are currently held by the Tonto National Forest.  The relocation of the trail will require a National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Environmental Clearance.  Once the clearance and permits are granted development and signage of the trail can begin.

The LOST Inc works in conjunction with the Forest Service and the Arizona Trail to maintain and develop trails in the Superior area.  For more information on becoming a member of the LOST Inc. or learn more about the Arnett Canyon trail re-location contact Nancy Vogler at 520-827-9461.
