Lopez announces intent to run for another term on Superior Council

My name is Olga Lopez and I am running for re-election for the position of Town Council for the Town of Superior.

My father, Paul Castaneda – known to many as “411” moved from Jerome, Arizona to Superior to work for Magma Copper Mining Company in 1950. He worked for Magma Copper for 36 years. I was 10 months old at the time, so you could say that I was raised and grew up in Superior. My late husband, Joey, also worked for what was then called Kennecott Copper Mine, which was bought out by ASARCO and is now owned by Groupo Mexico. He worked in the mining industry for 31 years. My brothers and son were also employed by the local mines and one son still works for a local copper mine.
I am well aware of how important the copper mining industry is, not only for the Town of Superior, but, also for the State of Arizona. A the same time, it is also important for the economy of Superior that we, as citizens, realize that there are vital attributes in Superior that need to and can be developed to further the growth of our own – Superior. For the word “superior” indicates being higher in rank or level. As citizens of Superior that is what we need to strive for. It takes all of us together to make this happen and be successful at reaching our goals.

I have been councilperson for 13 years. I am experienced, honest and trustworthy. The one thing I can share that I have learned is “in order to make progress and move forward you need patience and commitment and a plan.” Things don’t change overnight, but if it is important enough you don’t give up. We need to be optimistic and not to look at a glass half empty, but, instead, half full.

Remember to go out and “VOTE” on Tuesday, August 30, 2016.
/s/ Olga Lopez
