Local kids participate in Karate program

Four Tri-Community young people (and their parents) are showing what kind of commitment they have. The students travel weekly to Tucson-based BlackBird Karate school to attend classes. Pictured from left are: Lauren Carnes, Sensei Benjamin Couch, Shawn Kim, Ethan Cooper and Iris Kim. Lauren holds the rank of second-degree yellow belt and was recently named the 2014 Student of the Year. Shawn, Ethan and Iris last week were promoted to first-degree yellow belt.     The Gila County Board of Supervisors met on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, to approve the tax rates for the entire county. This is an annual function of the Board; the procedure is required by state law and allows the County Treasurer to accept and disburse the property taxes collected.
