Four Tri-Community young people (and their parents) are showing what kind of commitment they have. The students travel weekly to Tucson-based BlackBird Karate school to attend classes. Pictured from left are: Lauren Carnes, Sensei Benjamin Couch, Shawn Kim, Ethan Cooper and Iris Kim. Lauren holds the rank of second-degree yellow belt and was recently named the 2014 Student of the Year. Shawn, Ethan and Iris last week were promoted to first-degree yellow belt. Blackbird Karate is located on Prince, between Stone and First, in Tucson.Jennifer Carnes | Miner
