I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season! We are looking forward to an exciting and productive 2018. We are in the process of creating our 2018/2019 academic calendar and academic schedule. Research states the number one factor for high student achievement is the quality of instruction in the classroom. There is a research-based blueprint used by successful schools that enhances teacher instruction and student achievement. It revolves around researched-based professional training, teacher collaboration, test data review to support instruction, and teacher planning. We want to use this same blueprint to pilot a new school schedule next year. Every Wednesday would be a “Late Start” day. This means school would begin for all students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade at 9:30 each Wednesday. The District would continue to provide breakfast each Wednesday but at later time. Our school buses will also run at a later time in the morning on Wednesday as well. All school end times will remain the same. We are living in a time where school monies are tied to test scores. Although, test scores don’t define who we are as a District or as a Community, the reality is that we need to improve our systems and programs regardless of any label we receive from the State.
We understand our Superior families may have problems with the “Late Start” Day. We are willing to work to resolve any issues that may arise out of our proposed 2018/2019 pilot schedule. There will be a public hearing on February 7th, 2018 from 5:30-6:00. Anyone wishing to voice an opinion to our proposed pilot schedule may do so at this time.
