The 5th-seeded Superior softball entered the Division IV State Softball Championship as one of the hottest teams in the state after finishing its regular season with six-straight wins, which included victories over then top-ranked Ray and the defending back-to-back state champion San Manuel Miners.
Head coach Martin Navarrette told theSuperior Sunafter the win against the Lady Cats he believed his team was peaking at the right time and he had high expectations as his team readied for the playoffs.
The Lady Panthers, who had a bye in the first round, faced No. 12-seed Northland Prep in the second round on Tuesday, May 5.
With a win yesterday, Superior would face the winner between No. 4 Ray and No. 13 Chandler Prep in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 8. That game is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Rose Mofford Complex in Phoenix.
