After suffering a loss at fourth-ranked San Manuel earlier last week, the sixth-ranked Lady Panthers returned the favor in an 8 – 7 victory against the defending back-to-back state champions last Friday at home.
The Lady Panthers held an 8 – 5 lead after four innings, but solo runs in the fifth and seventh by the Miners made it close at the end.
Cierra Navarrette almost single handedly carried her team to the win, going 2-for-4 with a triple, homerun, and four RBI. Gabby Salcido was the Lady Panthers’ other hitting hero with a pair of hits, including a double.
Ivie Lopez earned the complete-game win, allowing seven runs – four earned – on 10 hits. She struck out three and walked none in her seventh win of the season.
Upcoming schedule: April 24 vs. Ray (4 p.m.) and April 27 at Gilbert Classical Academy (doubleheader – 2 p.m. & 4 p.m.).
