Lady Miners wrap up 2012 season with win over Hayden

The San Manuel Lady Miners varsity volleyball team wrapped up its 2012 season with a loss to Pusch Ridge, a couple losses to Amphi and a win over Hayden to go 1 – 3 in the final season stretch.

The Lady Miners made a trip over to Oro Valley on October 9th to take on the Lady Lions from Pusch Ridge and returned home with a 3 – 0 loss – losing in three straight sets. In the first game, the Lady Miners lost 25 – 14, in the second game San Manuel continued to battle but lost 25 – 17, in the third and final game the ladies gave all they had and still came up short 25 – 17.

Contributing for the Lady Miners was Asha Quintero with three kills, two blocks and one dig, Angelica Zuniga with one kill, one block and one dig, Robles had seven kills, and nine blocks, Leticia Reidhead had two kills, one assist, and five digs, Mackenzie White had one block, Brittany Allison had one block, Alexis Garibay had six assists, and one dig, Analisa Estrada had one assist, Felisha Gomez had one assist, and three digs, Laryce Rodriguez had two digs, Tamayo had 12 digs, and Karly Pena had10 digs.

San Manuel traveled to Tucson to take on Amphi on the Lady Panthers home court on October 11th losing in three straight sets 3 – 0 to a higher enrolled school. The Lady Miners lost the first game 25 -16, kept it close in the second game 25 – 21, and were out volleyed in the third and final game 25 – 12.

Contributing for the Lady Miners were Alexis Garibay with one kill, two assists, and three digs, Analisa Estrada had one kill, and eight digs, Asha Quintero had one kill three blocks, one assist, and one dig, Angelica Zuniga had two kills, eight blocks, and one dig, Laryce Rodriguez had one kill, one assist, and one dig, Mireya Tamayo had two kills and nine digs, Leticia Reidhead had two kills, one assist, and eight digs, Felisha Gomez had four kills, two assists, and 10 digs, and Ana Zuniga had three digs.

San Manuel hosted the Lady Panthers from Amphi on October 16th with nearly the same result as the Lady Miners lost again in three straight sets 3 – 0, losing the first game 25 – 14, keeping it close in the second game at 25 – 22, and losing ground in the third game 25 – 9.

Contributing for the Lady Miners were Garibay with one kill, four assists, and three digs, Angelica Zuniga with five kills, and 11 blocks, Mackenzie White had one kill and one dig, Analisa Robles had two kills, seven blocks, and one dig, Gomez had one kill, three assists, and five digs, Estrada had five digs, Mireya Tamayo had 12 digs, Reidhead had nine digs, and Pena had six digs.

In the final game of the season the Lady Miners headed up highway 77 on October 18th to face off with the Lady Lobos from Hayden as San Manuel played tough pulling out the 3 – 2 victory over Hayden. The Lady Miners won the first game in overtime 28 – 26, the ladies then won the second game 25 – 19, losing the third game in a close 23 – 25 battle, San Manuel lost again in another close game 20 -25 forcing a fifth and final game with the Lady Miners coming out with the win in a tough 15 -12 win.

Stepping up for the ladies were Garibay with seven kills, one block, 13 assists, and five digs, Zuniga had 21 kills, 14 blocks, and six digs, Tamayo had one kill, two aces, and a game high 20 digs, Mackenzie White had four kills, one block, and one dig, Robles had 18 kills, one ace, 16 blocks, and six digs, Leticia Reidhead had one kill, one ace, two assists, and 13 digs, Karly Pena had one kill and 17 digs, Felisha Gomez had three aces, 17 assists, and six digs, and Analisa Estrada had four digs.

Head Coach Deanne Brewer said, “Overall we had a good season. We made a lot of improvement. Ani and Jelly are in the top leaders in blocking stats in Division V. We didn’t win as many games as we would have liked to, but we didn’t get blown out either. We just couldn’t get over the hump, losing but two and three points a game.”

The Lady Miners will re load for next season and make a run for the playoffs.
