Lady Miners win two of three at the net

The San Manuel Lady Miners volleyball team battled at the net winning two games out of their last three attempts, picking up the wins over Alta Vista Charter and Hayden while only losing to San Carlos.

On Sept. 10, the Lady Miners traveled in to Tucson at the Kino Sports Complex to face off against Alta Vista Charter picking up the win three sets to none, winning the first set 25 – 17, dominating the second set 25 – 9, and completing the sweep 25 – 15.

Stepping up to the net for the ladies were Brittany Allison with four kills; Ashley Vargas with one kill, and two digs; Ana Zuniga with two kills, three assists, and three digs; Angelica Zuniga with nine kills and one block; Analisa Robles with five kills three blocks; Miereya Tamayo with four aces and nine digs; Lyana Waddell with five aces and four digs; and Felicia Gomez with four aces, eight assists, and five digs.

San Manuel traveled to San Carlos to match up against the Lady Braves and returned home with a 3 – 1 loss. In the first set the Lady Miners won 25 – 21. In the second set the Lady Braves won 25 – 17. San Carlos also won the third set 25 – 16 and took the final set 25 – 19.

Offensively for the Lady Miners was Brittany Allison with two kills, one ace, and nine digs; Ashley Vargas with five digs; Ana Zuniga with three kills, two aces, one block, and one dig; Angelica Zuniga with seven kills, two blocks, and one dig; Julia Velasquez with three kills and one dig; Analisa Robles with five kills, three aces, and one block; Miereya Tamayo with three aces and 28 digs; Lyana Waddell with four aces and four digs; and Felicia Gomez with six aces, four digs, and 16 assists.

The Lady Miners hosted the Lady Lobos from Hayden on Sept. 17, winning the contest 3 – 0 with the Lady Miners taking the first set 25 – 21, then the second set with the identical score of 25 – 21, and the last set 25 – 13.

Stepping up for the ladies were Brittany Allison with nine kills, two aces, two blocks and two digs; Angelica Zuniga with 11 kills, and three blocks; Julia Velasquez with one kill and one dig; Analisa Robles with six kills, and three blocks; Miereya Tamayo with two aces and 10 digs; Lyana Waddell with five digs; and Felicia Gomez with four kills, two digs, and 27 assists.

The Lady Miners hosted Globe on Tuesday and will travel to Hayden on Thursday with the JV playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
