Lady Miners win two, lose two

The San Manuel Lady Miners varsity basketball team has tallied up some court time in the past couple of weeks, picking up two wins over Amphi and Greenfields while taking two losses to Pusch Ridge and Thatcher.

On Dec. 4the Lady Miners fell to the Lady Lions from Pusch Ridge 47 – 10, San Manuel was outscored 16 – 5 in the first quarter and were shut out 10 – 0 in the second quarter to fall behind 26 – 5 at halftime. In the third quarter Pusch Ridge hit the court running – taking a 17 – 2 lead in the quarter and in the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions scored four points while the Lady Miners scored three points to fall short in the second half for the loss.

Contributing for the Lady Miners was Alexis Garibay with five points, one steal, and one rebound, Nicole Predgo scored three points with one rebound, Kadi Monfred scored two points with four rebounds, Maximilliana Lara pulled down 11 rebounds with one assist, and two steals, and Angelica Zuniga grabbed three rebounds with one steal.

In the Amphi game in Tucson on Dec. 11, the Lady Miners sealed a 54 – 44 win over the Lady Panthers behind Angelica Zunigas double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 14 rebounds to go with one block.

The Lady Miners took a 25 – 24 lead at the half and only scored two points in the third quarter but erupted in the fourth quarter scoring 27 points to the Lady Panthers 20 points to take the win.

Also contributing for the Lady Miners was Kadi Monfred who scored in double figures with 15 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal, Alexis Garibay also hit in double digits with 11 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal, Annalisa Robles stepped up-nearly missing a double-double scoring nine points and collecting 10 rebounds with two assists, and one steal, and Asha Quintero scored four points while grabbing 11 rebounds with two assists.

The Lady Miners hosted the Lady Eagles from Thatcher on Dec. 12 taking the 44 – 27 loss, San Manuel was outscored 10 – 2 in the first quarter and 16 – 13 in the second quarter to fall behind 26 – 15 at the half. In the second half, the Lady Miners fell short again in the third quarter 8 – 5 and in the fourth 10 – 7 to take the loss.

Contributing for the Lady Miners was Alexis Garibay with nine points, one rebound, and four steals, Angelica Zuniga scored seven points while grabbing 13 rebounds with one assist, and five steals, Annalisa Robles scored five points with five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block, Kadi Monfred scored three points with one rebound, and two assists, Asha Quintero scored two points with three rebounds, and two assists, and Maximilliana Lara scored one point with seven rebounds, and one block.

On Dec. 14, San Manuel hosted the Lady Griffins from Greenfields with the Lady Miners taking a 42 – 39 win led by Angelica Zuniga’s double-double scoring 24 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to go with one steal. San Manuel and Greenfields were tied at the half with the Lady Miners taking the lead after outscoring the Lady Griffins 7 – 5 in the third quarter and 11 – 10 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Contributing for the Lady Miners was Alexis Garibay with seven points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal, Annalisa Robles scored two points while grabbing nine rebounds, Asha Quintero scored two points, hauled in seven rebounds, with four assists, and two steals, Felicia Gomez score three points, and Kadi Monfred score one point with one rebound, two assists, and one steal.

Head Coach Dave Jungbluth said, “It was a good win for us. Angelica Zuniga played a great game on both
ends of the court and Asha Quintero had two beautiful assists to Angelica Zuniga in the fourth quarter.”

The Lady Miners will host the Lady Lobos from Hayden today with tip off slated for 5:30 p.m.
