After dropping the first set against Santa Cruz on Sept. 5, the San Manuel volleyball team won the next three sets and the match, 3 – 1 (13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16).

The win was San Manuel’s second of the season, evening the Lady Miners’ record at 2 – 2.

“The girls played an outstanding match both offensively and defensively,” San Manuel head coach Patty St. Jeor told the San Manuel Miner. “We are working on playing well as a single unit and the girls are improving each game.”

Samantha Roan, Hannah Reidhead, Andrea Guerrero and Alicia Guerrero were all superb from the service line, according to St. Jeor.

The Lady Miners are progressing in the right direction and St. Jeor believes her team will continue to improve as the season moves along. She credits new assistant coach Angelica “Jelly” Zuniga, a San Manuel alum and former Lady Miners’ three-sport star, for part of the team’s success so far.

“If mistakes are made, we need to remain positive,” St. Joer said. “We need to eliminate getting down on ourselves, instead we need to pick each other up, which we are improving at.”

Up next: Globe at San Manuel on Friday, Sept. 14. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
