The San Manuel Lady Miners softball team finished the regular season with three wins.
The Lady Miners hosted Miami on Apr. 19 and picked up the win 11 – 5.
In the circle was Lyana Waddell with Mariah McBride catching. Waddell faced 36 batters allowing five runs on nine hits, collected six strikeouts, three hit by pitch, one walk and the ladies committed five defensive errors
At the plate, Felicia Gomez went 2 for 3 with singles, and four RBIs; Alyssa Cuellar went 2 for 3 with a single, a triple, and three RBIs; Felicia Medina went 3 for 4 with two singles, a double, and three RBIs; and Angelica Zuniga went 2 for 4 with a single, a double, and an RBI.
“We needed this win,” said head coach Deanne Brewer. “We held them until the fifth inning when they scored a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, Waddell let up to let them score another three runs in the seventh. That’s where we have to buckle down. We are letting teams in the game in the late innings. I think we get that lead and get lax. We don’t want to do that at the State Tournament. It could be costly.”
The Lady Miners hosted Pusch Ridge on April 23rd and came away with the win 8 – 5.
In the circle was Waddell with Felicia Medina catching, Waddell faced 33 batters allowing five runs on seven hits, had nine strikeouts, three walks, and the ladies committed five errors defensively.
At the plate, Mireya Tamayo went 1 for 4 with a single, and a stolen base; Felicia Gomez went 2 for 4 with singles, a stolen base, and an RBI; Alyssa Cuellar went 2 for 4 with a single and Home Run (3 run); Mackenzie Vindiola went 1 for 2 with a single; Angelica Zuniga went 3 for 3 with two singles, a double, and one RBI; Mariah McBride went 2 for 2 with a single, a double, and one RBI.
Brewer said, “PRCA scored one run in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth, and another run in the seventh, again, we let up late in the game.”
San Manuel hosted St. Gregory in the final game of the regular season with the Lady Miners getting the win 13 – 5.
At the plate, Tamayo went 2 for 5 with singles, a stolen base, and an RBI; Gomez went 1 for 3 with a triple, and an RBI; Cuellar went 1 for 4, with a double, and two RBIs; Medina went 3 for 4 with a single, two triples, and two RBIs; Zuniga went 3 for 4 with a single, two triples, and three RBIs; Waddell, had a double, and one RBI; and
Ana Estrada went 1 for 4 with a single.
Brewer said, “Our hitting has definitely been our strength this season. In my opinion, we tend to make too many errors, but somehow all season we have been able to compensate with our hitting. I just would like to eliminate those errors and continue to come out smashing the ball.”
