Lady Miners fall to Miami at the net

The San Manuel varsity volleyball team fell to the visiting Miami Lady Vandals last week, losing three sets to one.

In the first set, the Lady Miners lost 25 – 19, in the second set San Manuel lost again 25 – 19, the Lady Miners showed a little fight winning the third set 25 – 19, but not hold off the Lady Vandals losing 25 – 18 in the final set.

Contributing for the Lady Miners were Mackenzie White with three blocks, 18 digs and five assists; Alexis Garibay with eight digs, one kill, five assists and one Ace; Sierra Cruce with six blocks, one dig, one kill and two assists; Felicia Gomez with six digs, two kills and 16 assists; and Tisha Reidhead with six digs and one assist.

SM Head Coach Deanne Brewer said, “We played very well together… a lot different from last year’s team.  I have a positive feeling about this group of girls.  We have a lot of versatility and I think we will have a great season.”

The Lady Miners will have a very busy schedule this week: they hosted Immaculate Heart on Tuesday, will host Florence today at 5 and 6 p.m., travel to Ray on Thursday and finish the week at the Florence Invitational on Saturday.
