The Hayden Lady lobo volleyball season started very good for the team winning their first three matches. But it hasn’t been easy for the women, having to go five games in two of their three wins.
The Lady Lobos started their regular season with a home match against the Lady Panthers of Superior. It started bad for the Lady Lobos when mistakes after mistakes, especially on their serves, caused them to lose the first two games. The senior members of the team finally started to take command and lead the Lobos to a marathon 29-27 third set win. It looked like the Lobos would revert to their first two game modes in the first round of serving. After Makayla Ramos hit four service points, the Lobo seniors started to dominate with their serving and play on the court while the Lady Panthers faltered, unable to answer Lobo scoring. The Lobos tied the match at two a piece with a 25-20 fourth set win. The fifth set was all Lobos allowing only one service point in their 15 to 8 win to record their first match win of the season.
The Lady Lobos traveled to Miami High on Thursday, Sept. 5, for a match against the always tough Lady Vandals. The Lady Vandals must be in rebuilding mode; the Lady Lobos completely dominated, easily defeating the Vandals in three sets. All Lady Lobos played extremely well according to Coach Marissa Gallego.
The Lady Lobos of Patagonia Union were on the Hayden Court Friday, Sept. 6, giving the Hayden Lady Lobos all they can handle.
The tall Patagonia team looked slower than the Hayden Lobo team losing the first two sets with scores of 25 to 20 and 25 to 23. The two Hayden wins must have given the Hayden team too much confidence as they let up a little, not handling the Patagonia spikes well and losing the next two sets to tie the match at two a piece. In the fifth set the Patagonia Lobos took an early lead with Hayden Lobos fighting back and holding their own against the tall Patagonia team at the net and finally pulling away for 15 to 18 fifth set win and the match win to improve their record to three wins no losses.
The Lady Lobos have only one match for this week hosting the Lady Monsoons of Mesa Prep on Tuesday, Sept. 10, before playing in a brutal stretch of matches the following three weeks against some very good teams.
