Since the last article on the Lady Lobo volleyball team, the Lobos earned a trip to the state playoffs winning six of their last seven matches to end the regular season with a thirteen win and four-loss record.

The Lady Lobos went on a no loss streak winning five of their last seven matches in three sets. The Lobos defeated the San Carlos Lady Braves with scores of 25 to 18, 25 to 16 and 25 to 20.

The Lady Lobos next match was a trip to Coolidge to take on the Lady Eagles of Imagine Prep and they again came away with a three set win defeating the Lady Eagles with scores of 25 to 9, 25 to 9 and 25 to 10.

The Lady Lobos winning streak continued when they traveled to Superior on Oct. 9 for the make-up of the Sept. 5 postponed match. The sets were a little bit tougher for the Lady Lobos but they came through with great serving, court movement and talking to take the match against the Lady Panthers with scores of 27 to 25, 25 to 18 and 25 to 20.

The Lady Eagles of Imagine Prep made the return match at Hayden with the results about the same as in the first match between the Lobos and Eagles. The scores were a little bit better for the Lady Eagles but they were still a bit in the lopsided side losing in three sets with scores of 25 to 13, 25 to 12 and 25 to 13.

The Lady Lobos lost the only match during the seven game stretch when the Lady Miners of San Manuel came to Hayden Gym for an exciting five set match.

The Lady Miners broke out to a two set to none score with scores of 26 to 28 and 19 to 25. However, the Lady Lobos came back playing strong on the net and landing their serves to take the next two sets and even the match at two sets apiece with scores of 25 to 23 and 25 to 20 to set up the exciting fifth set.

The Lady Miners broke out to a 0 to 3 score on penalty points before the Lobos could break their serve and take a 4 to 3 lead. The Miners could not take advantage of the service break returning the serve to Hayden and they raised the score to 7 to 4. The serve went back and forth with Hayden holding an 11 to 8 lead after four players for each team had gone to the service line.

It would be as close as the score would get as the next Miner server went to the line and hit for five services points to take a 12 to 14 lead after five servers had gone to the line and finally won, 12 to 15, on the service break when Hayden could not land their serve.

San Manuel handed the Lobos their fourth loss of the season and the second one at the hands of the Lady Miners.

The Lady Lobos were on the winning side on their next match when the Lady Panthers of Superior came to Hayden for the return match of the season. The second match against the Lady Panthers was just as tough as the first but the results were the same with the Lobos taking the match in three sets with scores of 25 to 23, 25 to 19 and 25 to 19.

The last scheduled match of the season was a trip to Globe to take on the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers played better the second meeting between the teams but the results were almost the same as the Lobos took the match in four sets.

The Lobos took the first two sets with scores of 25 to 20 and 25 to 17. The Lady Tigers came on strong in the third set wining 22 to 25.

The Tiger’s celebration must have tired them out because they could not do anything with the Lobos hard serves from Danielle Paton, Lainey Lopez and Devin Estrada as they combined for 17 service points to hand the Lady Tigers a 25 to 6 loss in the fourth set to win the match.

The Lady Lobo JV also had a good run winning four of five matches to end the season with an 11-win and 4-loss record. The Lobo JV lost a tough match to the San Carlos JV with scores of 23 to 25, 25 to 15 and 14 to 16.

It would be the last loss they would have winning their next four matches. The Lobo JV defeated the Superior Lady Panther JV in two sets with scores of 26 to 24 and 25 to 17.

The San Manuel Miner JV was next and the Hayden Lobo JV took care of business in three sets winning the match with scores of 20 to 25, 25 to 18 and 15 to 11.

The Superior Panther JV were on the schedule again and the results were the same but the action was much better with the Lobo JV winning a first set marathon with a 31 to 29 score and cruised to the two set win with a 25 to 15 score.

The final match of the season was another two set win when the Lobos traveled to Globe for the return match, winning with scores of 25 to 17 and 25 to 16.

The Lady Lobo varsity earned the trip to the state play-offs with their eleventh place finish in the power point standings. The Lady Lobos will travel to Prescott Valley to play the number six seed Lady Wildkats of Duncan High School on Fri.morning Nov. 2.

A win will send them to a second round game later in the day on Fri.

It was a great showing by the Lady Lobos during the season. The best of luck in the Arizona State Volleyball Tournament play tough and to the best of your abilities and good results will come to the team.

Again, the best of luck to the Hayden High School Lady Lobo volleyball team.
